Military Marches Vol 1 Gustav Gaigg / Vienna Army Battalion Band ST 2006 PLAY	Deutschmeister March / Hurra Heidecksburg / Radetzky March / Schoenfeld March / Sieferditz March / Andreas Hofer March / Kaiserjaeger March Big, almost cavernous sound characterizes the sonics, but the miking affords excellent presence and generally clean sound. The revelation affords very effective "fusion" and illusion of depth for purposes of this ultra-gemitlich marching fare. One has a hard time believing the martial element here counts for much beyond pageantry! Clear the Grid! ST 2010	Auto sounds, recorded at the Pomono road races. So specialized in appeal that only racing-car aficionados and hi-fi fanatics are likely to relish its confused but uproarious sonic documentation of the Pomona Road Races, varied only by what sounds suspiciously like a parody on racing-expert interviews. Even to a novice the terrific over-all racket is unquestionably authentic, at times singularly exciting, and--reproduced at full volume--it should clear not only the grid but one's living room and perhaps the whole neighborhood in a hurry. --High Fidelity There is plenty of noise and, consequently, the narration is often incoherent. ..If you like the sound of motors, here is a tape that certainly provides it. —Tape Recording

This reel should prove an amusing living-room novelty, since Warren Baker's Little Band beats out a varied batch of old-time tunes, reels, etc, with toe-tickling gusto. Pal Joey Thomas M Davis / Hollywood Radio City Orchestra ST 2022 PLAY	Performers: Duke Hazlett, Adele Davis. The many "Hollywood Radio City" releases bear scrutiny. Most are attributed to "Thomas M Davis", actually Maxwell Davis, A&R chief for Crown Records. It has been speculated that in some cases the tracks were recorded in Germany without the vocalists, who overdubbed their parts in the US (hence the credit on some albums to Hans Hagen). But that doesn’t seem to be the case in this instance--rejected takes from lead singer Duke Hazlett indicate otherwise. This series was produced by budgeteer Crown records. Reissue: STF 4017. Kalman: The Gypsy Princess Hans Hagen / Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus ST 3009 PLAY	Performers: Friedl Loor, Karl Terkal. A controversy arose over this recording when it appeared on Vox lp. Mimi Coertse was listed as a performer, but while she appeared in the Lehar (below), she did not sing in the Kalman work. There was a court battle and the LP versions were withdrawn. Omega's packaging did not make that error but while the Lehar was reissued on quarter-track, this title never reappeared. Reissued by ReDiscovery.
Lehar: The Merry Widow Hans Hagen / Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus ST 3011 PLAY	Performers: Mimi Coertse, Friedl Loor, Karl Terkal. Reissue: RSTC 304. Reissued by ReDiscovery. The orchestra and chorus perform with facility. The stereo recording was made in Vienna and is well-engineered. —Tape Recording The variety of tunefulness and sparkling scoring in these works will be a revelation in itself to many listeners, while the unflagging gusto with which they are projected and the electrical atmosphere captured in the boldly expansive recording are as irresistible as the catchy music. —High Fidelity
Around the World in 80 Days Hans Hagen / Omega Orchestra ST 3012 PLAY	Around the same time as Omega's release, the budget label Crown issued its own Around the World. Trade ads stated it was conducted by Hans Hagen, but Crown's actual release did not say. As might be expected, the two recordings are the same, one of many examples of content sharing between the two west coast companies. But there are some differences that distinguish them. The Crown was issued on lp and reel; the Omega on reel only. The Crown reel had superior sound: cleaner, with a more extended high end. But Omega's release included two tracks skipped by Crown (though one of them was an 'epilogue' cobbled together from previous tracks). Reissue: SST 827, STF 4004. See also ST 59 above. The orchestra seems smaller and, though perhaps not as colossal in sound as the Bel Canto recording, comes up with a less smothering effect.
